1

Search and Selection

Partner with a licensed yacht broker to define your needs and intended use. Your broker will search extensive inventories, inspecting yachts for suitability and condition. They provide detailed brochures or virtual tours to narrow down options. If a yacht meets your criteria, an in-person inspection is scheduled. Test trials are not permitted at this stage.

2

Make an Offer

Once you identify a suitable yacht, submit a formal offer through your broker. This offer is presented using an industry-standard contract outlining key timelines. A 10% deposit of the offer price is placed in escrow. The contract details inspection, sea trial, survey, and closing terms. Your broker ensures the offer reflects your interests.

3

Offer Accepted

The seller may accept, reject, or counter your offer, often requiring a week or two of negotiation. Once terms are agreed, both parties sign a Purchase & Sales Agreement. A 10% deposit is placed in the selling broker’s escrow account. This formalizes the commitment to move forward. Your broker guides you through this critical step.

4

Survey and Sea Trial

A professional survey, paid for by the buyer, assesses the yacht’s mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems. The survey, which may take 1-14 days, includes hauling the yacht out for inspection. A sea trial, typically 4 hours and at the seller’s expense, tests performance and comfort underway. This ensures the yacht meets your expectations. Deficiencies found may lead to negotiations.

5

Acceptance

After a successful survey and sea trial, you submit written acceptance of the yacht. The 10% deposit becomes non-refundable if you fail to close by the agreed date. Conditional acceptance may address survey deficiencies, allowing repairs or price adjustments. For example, a non-functional system might reduce the price. This step solidifies your commitment.

6

Closing

A yacht documentation specialist and escrow agent review and clear all paperwork. Funds are transferred, and you receive the yacht’s keys and documents. The Bill of Sale and other closing documents should be kept on board until registration is finalized. This process may take weeks or months, depending on location. Miami Yachting ensures a seamless transfer of ownership.
